Ride the Dream Civic with Honda

Honda Civic 2016
A few days ago, I had the honor of joining a 2D1N road trip heading towards Carey Island in the new 10th Generation Honda Civic. Along with another 14 bloggers, we test drive the car and at the same time getting educated on Honda technologies. Ready to see what have I experienced during the trip? Follow me!

9.30am – Breakfast & Briefing at Le Gardenz

We were given a brief introduction on the new Honda Civic, which is available in two engine variants: 1.8L i-VTEC and 1.5L VTEC (TurboCharged or TurboCharged Premium).
In fact, Honda Malaysia is the first Japanese mass market manufacturer to introduce a turbo engine in the C-segment. Both engines are mated with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for a smooth driving experience and fuel efficiency. Also, both variants of the All-New Civic are “Energy Efficient Vehicle” certified.
Oh, and a short driving briefing too, to ensure everyone’s safety during the convoy.

10.40am – Explore the Interior of 10th Gen Honda Civic

And we hopped into the car! Busy exploring each and every corners. Here’s what we have discovered:8-way driver power seat, dual-zone air conditioning system, large cabin space, 519L cargo space, rear air conditioning ventilation, paddle shift (only 1.5L engine), cruise control, eco button, 6 airbags, Electric Parking Brake and Auto Brake Hold.

10.50am – Navigate to MAEPS

Once we familiarized with the interior, we head to MAEPS, our first stop of the day, along with my co-pilots Roslyn and Carol. We each take turn to test drive on different routes, town and highway to assess the car.
On a side note, Honda Malaysia was considerate enough to provide mineral waters and snacks in case we are thirsty and hungry during the journey.

11.30am – Gymkhana

Here I had the most exhilarating gymkhana experience of my life (yes I was in the car!) as the instructor swerved the car left and right to test out the VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist). I was really impressed with the handling and stability of the new Honda Civic during the crazy stunts even on a rainy day!

Speaking of safety, other than VSA, the 10th Gen Honda Civic also equipped with top class safety features such as 6 airbags, anti-locking breaking systems, electronic break distribution, break assist, hill start assist, emergency stop signal and ISOFIX (International Standards Organisation method of affixing the child seat easily as well as safely without the seat belt or a locking clip).

12.30pm – Lunch at ParaThai (Mitsui Outlet)

As we stopped at Mitsui Outlet to fill our stomach with delectable Thai food, we can’t help but to take a few photos of the cars lining up prettily in a row. We selected the first car, which is a HONDA Civic 1.5L TurboCharge in Modern Steel Metallic. The All-New Civic is also available in four other colors: Dark Ruby Red Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic (new color) and White Orchid Pearl(new color).

2.30pm – Go-Kart @Sepang

Shower cap, checked. Smelly helmet with visor, checked. Honda generator engine, checked. Left leg on brake, right leg on accelerator, and here we go! I had fun maneuvering Go-Kart for the first time. To step up the challenge, we had not only the practice round, but also qualifying round followed by a mini race.

5.30pm – Civic On the Road

As the ride from Sepang to Amverton takes about 45 minutes on a clear SKVE highway, our marshall encouraged us to push the speed. With the 1.5 TurboCharge engine, the speed pick up rather fast. The longer wheelbase and wider body of the new Civic could have been the reason for its extremely good stability.
At 162km/h, we were expecting a loud engine sound but guess what? To achieve cabin quietness and further enhance ride quality, the Civic is fitted with light-weight sound proofing system including underbody covering and high noise isolation door system.

6.10pm – Check In & Dinner @Amverton Cove

My room at Amverton Cove Golf and Island Resort was huge with comfortable king size bed and a picturesque view overlooking a golf course. Dinner was buffet with BBQ items at the “Rabbit Room”.

9.00pm – Civic at Night

After the BBQ dinner, we had a comparison session on the headlight and taillight of 9th Gen and 10th Gen. The new LED headlight was definitely brighter but not glaring at all. I especially like the taillight design, sleek and sophisticated. The overall design is stylish and sporty (especially at night).

10.00am – Paintball

On the next morning, after we had the buffet breakfast at “Rabbit Room”, we were divided into two groups for ATV and paintball activity.
As many of us were first timers, we were acting hilariously during the first round. The real thrill came during second round with roles and planned strategy. Great game everyone!

2.00pm – Discover More Awesome Civic Features & Visit Honda Booth @MIECC

In such a hot weather in Malaysian, we tend to have different ways of cooling the car be it blasting the air-cond to the max, lower down all windows to allow circulation of air, or slamming the door hoping hot air would go out in return of cold air.

How about the idea of starting the engine without you being inside? even better, a remote distance of up to 10 meters. With the Civic’s Remote Engine Start feature now I can remotely start the car (along with the air-cond) 10 minutes before going in.(check out the upper left vertical video) In the case of change of plan, I can press the same button again and the engine will be turned off.

On the upper right is a video showing the Apple Carplay feature on 7″ Advanced Display Audio. IPhone can be connected to Civic using a USB cable to run personalized apps, Google Maps and even Spotify. (This feature will be available to Android users soon)

We could spend about an hour at the Honda booth in MIECC educating ourselves on Honda’s Hybrid system, safety technologies and Turbo engine at the Advanced Technology Corner.

Overall, the all new 10th Generation HONDA Civic can be in the list of anyone looking for performance car, yet paying C-Segment price with D-Segment value. I personally prefer the 1.5 compared to 1.8 as TurboCharge engine really makes a huge difference. So why not ride the dream Civic now?

RM113,800 for 1.8S
RM127,800 for 1.5 Turbocharged
RM135,800 for 1.5 Turbocharged Premium
*All prices quoted are on-the-road with insurance

Again, thank you Honda Malaysia for the opportunity to test drive the 10th Gen Honda Civic, the education on car technologies, the great hospitality, the well-thought and well-executed road trip!
